GD Association Founded

Partnered with Goodwill Baptist Church to establish the GD Association

1990s
Founding of the Teen Mom Program at the Aridell Mitchell Home in the 1990s
  • Housed teen mothers and their children
  • Provided them with programming to gain their GEDs, parenting skills and more
Separation from Goodwill Baptist Church in the 1990s
  • Shifted gears to open the doors to more funding for programming (i.e. grants and government funds)
1997
Purchase of Norman Mitchell Manor and Alma Gamble Apartments in 1997
  • Transitioned to low-income housing, along with serving seniors and veterans
2016
Change in leadership in 2016
  • Transfer of leadership from George Waters to Vergie Burks

Current
  • Embarking on our new Stay Together campaign in the hopes to raise $12 million to renovate and expand our current buildings

The Alma Gamble House celebrates his mission and servanthood, continuing to honor his spirit by providing safe, affordable housing in a space built on dignity, resilience, and hope.

Norman Mitchell

Norman Mitchell Manor embodies the vision of Norman Mitchell, a leader dedicated to strengthening Seattle’s neighborhoods and broadening opportunities for underserved communities. His impact on community development created enduring change, ensuring that basic needs remained accessible. The residence continues this legacy by providing more than just shelter; it offers residents security, a platform for growth, and a true sense of belonging.
